Fair Housing Laws
Have you experienced discrimination in housing?
What is it?
The Fair Housing Act protects tenants from discrimination.
Federal and state Fair Housing laws make it against the law to treat you differently in housing because of your:
Race,
Color,
National origin,
Disability,
Sex,
Religion,
Familial status - meaning if your family has children under the age of 18.
In addition, New Hampshire law protects you against housing discrimination based on your:
Age,
Marital status,
Sexual orientation,
Gender Identity.
Fair Housing laws make it unlawful for housing owners, landlords, housing managers, real estate agents, and others involved directly or indirectly in the rental or sale of housing or housing lots to discriminate in:
The advertising of an available apartment, home, or housing lot,
The rental, sale, or negotiation for the rental or sale of housing,
The provision of home financing or real estate brokerage services.
